CHRISTA L. MCCANN, ESQ.

Christa is a co-owner and managing partner at NextGen Injury Law, where she represents victims of medical malpractice, nursing home abuse or neglect, assisted living facility injuries, and auto accident injuries.

I’ve had the privilege of representing numerous injury victims and families of those who have been injured or died as a result of others’ carelessness. For someone who is adjusting to living with life-altering injuries or for family members who are navigating through the loss of a loved one, this can be an incredibly difficult time. I am here to guide you and your family through the legal process, advocate for your interests, and be a source of comfort during this time.

As an attorney, it’s also my job to get you the best recovery possible to compensate you and your family for your injuries. Throughout my career, I’ve successfully obtained numerous million-dollar and multi-million dollar recoveries for my clients who suffered injuries ranging from hearing/vision loss, broken bones and spinal injuries to amputation, paralysis, brain injuries and death.

Outside of my work representing injury victims, I enjoy being involved in our local community, particularly when it comes to organizations that advocate for women, children, and minorities.  I am currently the President-Elect of the Palm Beach County Chapter of FAWL (Florida Association for Women Lawyers) and the Past President of the Palm Beach County Hispanic Bar Association.

FOUR QUICK QUESTIONS ABOUT CHRISTA:

What is unique about you as an attorney?

A: I’ve worked on both sides of the personal injury field, first as a defense attorney representing hospitals, doctors and auto insurance companies and now as a plaintiff’s attorney representing injury and wrongful death victims. As a result, I understand and can anticipate the arguments that my clients will be up against when we go to court. I am also fluent in Spanish and am available to assist all of the firm’s Spanish-speaking clients.

What changes would you like to see in the personal injury field?

A: The laws that govern personal injury cases in Florida unfortunately misunderstand the needs of injury and wrongful death victims, and misrepresent the effects that personal injury cases have on the insurance industry. The fact of the matter is that insurance premiums aren’t going up as a result of personal injury claims (and insurance companies wouldn’t reduce their premiums if personal injury claims went away). So, I would like to see reform in the laws that restrict personal injury victims’ ability to bring claims and what they are able to recover for their injuries, particularly when it comes to medical malpractice victims and birth-related injuries.

What do you do in your spare time for fun?

A: My husband and I love to travel, although that has been limited since having our son in 2019. We were lucky enough to visit Thailand and Singapore on our honeymoon, and recently traveled to Spain for some incredible tapas, music, scenery and people; unfortunately I didn’t get to try the wine/sangria as I was pregnant, but I hear that is great too.

What do you enjoy about being a lawyer?

A: The relationships I develop with the people I represent. Over the course of representing a client—from the first meeting to preparing for trial, and even after—I get to learn about their family, careers, life experiences, the things that make them tick and make them unique. Every client is different and enriches my life and practice in some way. I’ve been lucky enough to represent teachers, veterans, athletes, music producers, Holocaust survivors, children, parents and grandparents. Although I am working with them during a difficult time in their lives, we build a rapport that, in many cases, leads to a friendship that lasts long after their case is over.
